Marina Rubicón Lanzarote: Market Days and What to Do When You Get There

Ada Vidodo

Quick Answer

Yes, worth visiting — especially on a Wednesday or Saturday morning when the market is on. Go for the market, stay for the setting, add lunch or a coastal walk if you have time.

One thing to know before you drive: parking is free for the first 45 minutes during the day. After that you pay by the minute.

The Market

The market runs every Wednesday and Saturday, from 09:00 to 14:00. No ticket, no booking. You just turn up.

The stalls cover clothing, jewellery, ceramics, souvenirs, local produce and food. Not everything is locally made — some stalls sell imported goods. If provenance matters, ask before buying.

Arrive before 11:00 for the best pick. By midday it fills up fast in high season.

💡 Local Tip: If you are only stopping for a quick look, the 45-minute free parking window may be enough. If you are staying for the market plus lunch, expect to pay.

Where to Eat

A solid row of waterfront restaurants and cafés runs along the marina. Most are tourist-facing and priced accordingly, but the setting does a lot of the work. Fish and seafood are the obvious choices at lunch — you are sitting in a marina.

Things to Do

The marina has boutiques, beachwear shops and a few souvenir spots alongside the market stalls — useful if you visit outside market hours.

Boat trips depart from here, including catamaran excursions along the south coast. Operators are easy to find; in high season, book ahead for popular trips.

Museo Atlántico is Europe's first underwater museum — sculptures on the seabed off Playa Blanca. It is a diving and snorkelling experience, not a walk-in attraction. Worth it if you dive.

From the marina, a coastal path runs east to Playa Dorada — flat, easy, around 20 to 30 minutes one way. One of the better beaches in the south of the island.

Getting There and Parking

Marina Rubicón is at the western end of Playa Blanca, signposted from the main resort road. From most of the resort it is a 15 to 25-minute walk along the coast.

If you drive, the marina car park works like this: daytime (07:00–00:00), the first 45 minutes are free, then €0.02 per minute, maximum €25 per day. At night (00:00–07:00), only the first 10 minutes are free, then €0.03 per minute, same daily cap.

Some participating businesses can redeem two extra hours for customers. Ask the business — it does not apply everywhere.

One Thing About Ferries

The Fred. Olsen ferry to Fuerteventura does not leave from Marina Rubicón. It departs from a separate terminal on the eastern side of Playa Blanca. Naviera Armas uses a different terminal again. Check your operator before you travel.

Marina Rubicón looks like a logical place for ferries. It is not. Easy mistake to make.

Can you walk from Playa Blanca? Yes — 15 to 25 minutes along the coast from most parts of the resort.

Does the Fuerteventura ferry leave from here? No. Ferries use separate terminals in Playa Blanca. Always check your operator's departure point.

What is Museo Atlántico? Europe's first underwater museum. You visit by diving or snorkelling with a registered operator.

To Wrap Up

Marina Rubicón is easy to underestimate. You might go for the market and not leave until the afternoon.

It is not a destination that demands too much of you. That is more or less the point. Just remember: 45 minutes free parking during the day, then you pay.

Lanzarote in Winter: Weather, Things to Do and Practical Tips
It is milder, windier, calmer and often better for exploring. You can still get proper sunshine, beach afternoons and outdoor lunches — but winter works best when you stay flexible. The simple rule: do beaches when the weather is right, and explore when it is not. That means volcano routes, La Geria, César Manrique sites, local markets, Arrecife and village walks become even more useful in winter.
