his is the official “kick-off moment” for the carnival season in Teguise (La Villa) — the first date where the carnival moves from “announced” to real life on the street. The municipality presents the participating groups, and you get that classic local feeling of: costumes starting to appear, people meeting up in the historic centre, and the first real carnival buzz before the bigger weeks in Costa Teguise and later La Graciosa.
Even if you don’t know all the groups yet, this event is ideal to understand what Teguise carnival is about: community-first, set in a beautiful old town square, and focused on groups + live atmosphere rather than big tourist staging. The 2026 theme is “México Lindo y Más Allá, la Fiesta de los Muertos”, so you can expect colourful touches inspired by Mexican celebration aesthetics as the season builds.
