San Bartolomé Carnival 2026 — Closing Night + “Quema del Guachinango”

San Bartolomé Carnival 2026 — Closing Night + “Quema del Guachinango”

public
This is the official finale of San Bartolomé’s 2026 carnival — and it happens in Playa Honda. The centrepiece is the traditional “Quema del Guachinango” (the symbolic burning of the carnival figure), which works like the classic “end-of-carnival” ritual: the community gathers for a last big moment, the mood becomes both festive and theatrical, and the burning marks the closing of the celebrations.

It’s a very “locals” carnival scene: people often come dressed up (some still in theme costumes), there’s usually a “final-night” energy in the streets, and the burning is the big point where everyone stops, watches, films, and says goodbye to carnival until next year.

Important: the municipality confirms the date and that it’s the closing act in Playa Honda, but the exact start time and the exact location inside Playa Honda aren’t stated in the announcement yet (they’ll normally appear in the official programme)
