This is Arrecife’s official carnival farewell — the night where the whole city switches from “party mode” to a deliberately theatrical, funny-sad goodbye. People dress in black like exaggerated “widows and mourners,” and the vibe is half comedy, half tradition: dramatic faces, mock crying, and a slow parade atmosphere that feels like a street performance you’re inside of.
The procession ends with the symbolic burning of the sardine (the classic ritual that marks the end of carnival and the return to normal life). It’s one of the most memorable events for visitors because it’s pure Canarian carnival culture: a mix of satire, community theatre, drums/music, and the big final moment when the sardine goes up in flames.
