The International Museum of Contemporary Art (MIAC) in the historic Castillo de San José in Arrecife hosts the exhibition “Life Imitates Art” by Canarian artist Cristóbal Tabares. 🎨
Inspired by the famous phrase by Oscar Wilde, the exhibition explores how art shapes the way we perceive everyday life and our surroundings. Through a vibrant and expressive visual language, Tabares revisits the history of Canarian painting, reinterpreting influences from artists such as Jorge Oramas, Óscar Domínguez, Néstor de la Torre and Pino Ojeda.
The exhibition features eight large-scale paintings that create a dialogue between tradition and contemporary perspectives. Each piece blends colour, symbolism and irony to reinterpret the landscapes and cultural identity of the Canary Islands in a fresh and modern way.
Visitors also have the opportunity to discover the MIAC itself, one of Lanzarote’s most iconic cultural venues, located in a restored 18th-century fortress overlooking the harbour. 🌊
Admission is included with the museum entrance ticket.
Tip: after exploring the exhibition, take a moment to enjoy the panoramic harbour views from the museum terrace.
