The exhibition “The Depth of Silence” presents an artistic exploration of Lanzarote’s volcanic landscape through the work of renowned artist Ildefonso Aguilar. 🎨

In this exhibition, Aguilar creates a sensitive cartography of the island’s territory where stone, lava and sand become symbols within a poetic interpretation of the landscape. The exhibition brings together paintings, photography and audiovisual works alongside earlier pieces developed over decades of dialogue with the natural environment of Lanzarote.

Volcanic textures and fragments of eroded lava appear as a kind of mineral writing that invites visitors to slow down and observe carefully. Rather than simply portraying the landscape, Aguilar listens to it and translates it into an artistic language that connects silence, nature and contemplation.

Born in Salamanca in 1945 and living in Lanzarote since infancy, Ildefonso Aguilar is a key cultural figure on the island. He is also the founder of the Lanzarote Visual Music Festival and has developed an internationally recognised artistic career closely linked to the volcanic environment of the Canary Islands.

The exhibition takes place at the Casa de la Cultura Agustín de la Hoz in Arrecife and includes several guided tours led by curator David Machado throughout the exhibition period.

Admission: free entry.
Tip: try to attend one of the guided tours to gain deeper insight into the artist’s work and the volcanic landscape that inspires it.
